Boutique hotels in Zambia: Lusaka lofts and the falls
Zambia is known for bush camps, but its cities have started producing genuinely good small hotels, Lusaka lofts with local art on the walls, and houses near Livingstone that put you a short drive from the falls without the resort scale.
Lusaka
A handful of owner-run properties in the leafier districts, strong on breakfast, coffee and courtyard space. The right stop between flights and parks.
Livingstone and the falls
Stay small and close to the river. The falls are at their most dramatic from March to May; September and October are hot, low-water and best for swimming and rafting.
Combining it
Two nights in Lusaka, two at the falls, then a bush leg, the small hotels handle the transfers better than you would expect.
