Boutique hotels in Côte d'Ivoire: Abidjan and the Assinie coast
Abidjan is the most underrated hotel city in West Africa. Cocody villas and Plateau apartments have been turned into small hotels with real design ambition, and the Assinie coast is an hour and a half away for sand between the lagoon and the ocean.
Abidjan
Cocody for quiet, green, residential streets; Plateau for the business end and the views. Both have small properties where the restaurant is a destination in its own right.
Assinie
A narrow strip between lagoon and Atlantic, with low-key houses, boats and long lunches. Weekends fill with Abidjan, go midweek.
Practicalities
French goes a long way, the dry season runs December to April, and the drive to the coast is straightforward.
